Like all spring sports returning to play, the Clinton baseball team will jump headfirst into the somewhat unknown at 5 p.m. Thursday, when it hosts Cache for the season opener.
ENID – True to form, the Clinton boys’ basketball team (15-7 overall) rose above adversity from early on in the area consolation semis Friday, against No. 12 John Marshall (16- 7), but it just wasn’t enough, falling 67-58, to end the season.
The Clinton soccer program played its second games at Bethany Friday. The CHS girls (0-2 overall) fell, 3-1, to the Lady Bronchos. The Reds (2-0) picked up their second win of the season, 2-1.
Injuries didn’t allow Ethan Maley to finish out his final two wrestling seasons on the mat, but that never stopped him from being a positive force for the Reds.
After a one-year hiatus, the Clinton Noon Lions are making preparations to conduct the summer baseball program again.
ENID – Trailing 20-9 in the second quarter of its area tournament opener Thursday, the Clinton boys’ basketball team (15-6 overall) needed a boost, as it struggled with turnovers against a lengthy Newcastle defense.
OKLAHOMA CITY – “Fight” is something that western Oklahoma teams are never in short supply of, and the No. 3 Arapaho-Butler boys’ basketball team left all of its fight on the floor in a heartbreaking, 68-61, triple overtime loss to No. 10 Velma Alma Thursday in the state quarterfinals.
There aren’t enough superlatives to do Atrel Bryson’s time as a Red justice, and it’s because few players across Clinton’s deep history have been as brilliant on the gridiron and hardwood.
There was a pretty good chance that when Clinton senior, 132-pound wrestler Elijah Roque stepped on the mat, he’d come out with a win.
A trip to area always means a significant step up in the competition level, and the Clinton basketball program is getting that treatment to the full extent in its openers at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. today, at Enid High School.
