EDMOND – Effort, heart and drive – all were used by the Clinton football team to get to the Class 4A state championship and were still on display until the final whistle in a 42-13 loss to the No. 1, undefeated Wagoner Bulldogs Saturday at UCO’s Wantland Stadium.

Clinton (8-4 overall) will finish as the 2020, Class 4A runner-up. Wagoner completes its undefeated season with a 4A gold ball. It’s Clinton’s 10th silver ball in school history.

Powell is strip sacked and Trey Gause picks up the fumble and returns it for a 66-yard score. WHS leads it 21-0. Sawyer Jones drops one in perfectly to Chase Nanni in the back of the end zone, for a 19-yard TD. WHS leads it 28-0.

Drake walks in for a five-yard TD to give Wagoner the early lead. It was all him on that drive. WHS leads it 7-0. The very next play, Braden Drake goes 40 yards through the Clinton defense to extend the lead. WHS leads it 14-0.
The No. 9 Clinton football team (8-3 overall) meets No. 1 Wagoner (13-0) in the 2020, Class 4A state championship at 1 p.m. today, at UCO's Wantland Stadium. It's the Red Tornadoes 26th state title appearance, and the Bulldogs 8th.
Corn Bible Academy junior defensive back River Lewis received notoriety on NFL Network for his form tackle, during a game this season, earning him the week 13 Way to Play High School Award.
