SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Scientists will get $25 million to study salt lake ecosystems in the drought-stricken U.S. West, as President Joe Biden signed legislation recently allocating the funds in the face of unprecedented existential threats caused by the lack of water.

The City of Clinton may soon have a new option for the disposal of solid waste after Elk City’s City Commission voted to enter into an interlocal agreement with the Clinton Solid Waste Authority. The vote comes after months of casual conversation between the two cities regarding the issue.

The Clinton Economic Development Authority moved to reject both proposals for the Glancy Motel property and to further discuss plans for the property at its next meeting in January.

Tax credits for electric vehicles will boost their appeal

(AP) — Starting Jan. 1, many Americans will qualify for a tax credit of up to $7,500 for buying an electric vehicle. The credit, part of changes enacted in the Inflation Reduction Act, is designed to spur EV sales and reduce greenhouse emissions. But a complex web of requirements, including where vehicles and batteries must be manufactured to qualify, is casting doubt on whether anyone can receive the full $7,500 credit next year.
