“Let food be thy medicine” is a quote attributed to Hippocrates, the ancient scholar considered to be the father of modern medicine. The saying relates to the notion that what people put in their bodies can heal and/or prevent certain conditions.

The efforts of researchers and public health officials in developing safe and successful COVID-19 vaccines was nothing short of historic. Vaccines typically take years to develop, but a combination of factors enabled researchers to make COVID-19 vaccines available to vulnerable populations by December 2020, or roughly nine months after the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic.

People visit the doctor for any number of reasons. An achy back, an annual physical or even an especially pesky cold may compel people to book appointments with their physicians. Many such appointments do not require follow-up visits, but those that do may yield information that patients should keep readily available.
