OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma’s Pardon and Parole Board Monday unanimously denied clemency for a death row inmate convicted of kidnapping, raping and killing a 7-year-old girl in 1984, clearing the way for him to be executed later this month.

Tuesday’s Clinton City Council meeting saw disagreement among members on how to handle repairs for the deteriorating U.S. Highway 66, with the council ultimately deciding to postpone action pending further investigation.

As of press time Wednesday, no additional candidates have filed for the City of Clinton municipal election. In the mayoral race, incumbent Mayor David Berrong and Chris Roland have both submitted their candidacy. For Ward 2, incumbent Ernie Dowdell has filed for re-election, while in Ward 4, former councilman Bobby Stewart has filed for the seat currently held by incumbent Arthur Lloyd, who has not yet filed for re-election as of Wednesday press time.
