(AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Thursday that he will allow service members to carry personal weapons onto military installations, citing the Second Amendment and recent shootings at bases across the country. In a video posted to X, Hegseth said he is signing a memo that will direct base commanders to allow requests for troops to carry privately owned firearms “with the presumption that it is necessary for personal protection.”

Unless an interested political candidate filed late Friday, the path forward for county, state, and federal offices appears to be a little clearer.

Arapaho-Butler Schools, located at 300 N. 12th St., is having its Pre-K pre-enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Parents and families are invited to sign up their children, who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, to come and visit the school.
