City of Clinton officials faced a dilemma about how and where to have this Tuesday’s city council meeting in order to comply with the ever-changing rules caused by the CO- VID-19 crisis.

Mission House needs supplies, donations

The Clinton Mission House is asking for numerous supplies in order to keep serving those in need of food in town. Mission House Shelter Director Jennifer Howard said the largest number of people the shelter had served in one day was 140 – that was prior to the recent coronavirus pandemic.

Local volunteers making masks

A small group of Clinton women who used to meet up for a sewing group once a week, before the COVID-19 pandemic, have found a way to observe current social distancing rules and still collaborate on sewing projects. These days their main project is making face masks to protect healthcare workers from getting sick while caring for others.

The April ClintonFirst cleanup event that had been scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic, said Clinton Economic Development Director Roland Mower.

Working out from hom

Mary Akin fitness trainer Tamara Thomas teaches a virtual workout. The facility began utilizing virtual workouts March 23. They’ve continued to see their usual attendance numbers, even though the gym has been closed to the public for nearly two weeks. 

Small businesses in Clinton — and around the nation — have been hit hard by the fallout surrounding COVID-19, coronavirus, which means their employees are being affected too.

According to Clinton Police Chief Paul Rinkel, there is a small jump in theft calls, but it is not major cause for concern. Rinkel also made sure to remind all citizens to follow state protocols on the coronavirus as well.
