MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The United States and the Philippines announced an expansion of America's military presence in the Southeast Asian country on Thursday, with U.S. forces granted access to four more military camps, effectively giving Washington new ground to ramp up deterrence against China.

The Custer County Health Department will be hosting a patient recognition event from 1-3 p.m. Friday at its office located at 3030 Custer Ave. in Clinton. The event will feature tours of the facility, refreshments and free blood pressure screenings.

The Clinton Hospital Authority authorized the emergency purchase of equipment from AllianceHealth for use in the Clinton Regional Hospital at a special meeting Tuesday.

WES Quizbowl team set to compete at state

Washington Elementary’s Quizbowl team has had an exciting season thus far with hosting district and regional Quizbowl competitions for the area and obtaining runner-up at regionals, setting it up to compete at the state competition later this month.

DALLAS (AP) — Two monkeys taken from the Dallas Zoo were found Tuesday in an abandoned home after going missing the day before from their enclosure, which had been cut. But no arrests have been made, deepening the mystery at the zoo that has included other cut fences, the escape of a small leopard and the suspicious death of an endangered vulture.
