(AP) — Almost 1,000 cities, towns and villages in the U.S. lost their status as urban areas on Thursday as the U.S. Census Bureau released a new list of places considered urban based on revised criteria.

(AP) — The number of people seeking unemployment benefits rose only slightly last week with the labor market remaining strong despite the Federal Reserve's efforts to cool the economy and hiring.

The Clinton Economic Development Authority will be purchasing the Tradewinds, located in the 2000 block of Gary Boulevard, for $550,000 after the Clinton City Council approved funding for the purchase at a special meeting Tuesday. The authority will begin working on plans to demolish the structure and market it for future economic development opportunities along with an interlocal agreement with Clinton Public Schools.

Mission House annual fundraiser deemed a success

Like most holiday festivities, the Clinton Mission House’s annual fundraiser, bell ringing, has come to an end, and Clinton Mission House Director Twyla Williams says the fundraiser was successful.

The Custer County Board of Commissioners discussed possible changes to board appointments at its weekly meeting Wednesday. Also discussed was an election for the three Fair Board seats that are up for reelection.
