Reds show positives in first practices

The glow of stadium lights off I-40 started early Monday and Tuesday morning, signifying to the rest of Oklahoma that the Clinton football team and third-year head coach John Higbee are back to work.

The three area fall softball and baseball squads continue to pick up wins early in their respective 2020 seasons.

A shaky, early start flipped into a dominant win for the Clinton softball team in its fast-pitch season opener Monday night at home, outscoring Sayre 11-0 over the final one-and-a-half innings, to run rule the Lady Eagles, 15-3.

Starters set for Clinton softball

The starting units for the Clinton High School softball team are set headed into the season opener at 4:15 p.m. Monday at home against Sayre.

Volleyball starts season Tuesday

Clinton volleyball opens the 2020 season at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Erick. The junior varsity Lady Reds will start at that time and the varsity team will follow. 100-inning game Saturday

The Clinton softball program is putting on its fifth annual 100-inning game fundraiser at 9 a.m. Saturday. The proceeds will go to the program for meals, uniforms, etcetera. Alumni are invited to compete in the extended contest. Also, a special ceremony will be held to honor the slow-pitch seniors, whose season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although protocols and rules continue to change during the coronavirus pandemic, the Clinton football team plans to be on the field Monday for its first official practice of the 2020 season.
