Funeral services were held Wednesday for Truman Eugene Smith, 89, former Clinton businessman, at Hydro Baptist Church.

He died Monday, June 3, 2019, at his home in Hydro.

Smith was born July 18, 1929, to Othie and Bettie (Millwee) Smith. He graduated from Hydro High School in 1946.

On June 1, 1950, he married Ila Belle Baskett in Clinton. The couple owned and operated the Pee Wee Grill and May-tag Appliance Store in Clinton, and Colony Café and Catering in Colony.

Smith pastored Rocky First Baptist Church for three years, Colony Baptist Church for 39 years, and Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Geary for 10 years. He was also very active in FFA, farming and ranching.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-and mother-in-law; a daughter-inlaw, Rhonda Smith; and a brother-in-law, BJ Peveler.

Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, Pearl Peveler; two sons, Wayne and wife Janice of Colony and Terry and wife Diana of Hinton; a daughter, Debbie Lasley and husband David of Hydro; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Smith was interred at Poage Cemetery near Colony.
