Monty Gale Brinkley, 66, of Canute, Oklahoma was born on October 24, 1955 in Elk City, Oklahoma. He is the son of Melrose Quincy and Mary Beth (Vaughn) Brinkley. Monty went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, Elk City, Oklahoma.

He married his soul mate, Rita Kay Gunter on August 29, 1975 in a ceremony held north of Clinton Lake. Monty was a Firefighter for the Canute Fire Department and a First Responder and when he was not doing what he loved, fighting fires and drinking his favorite drink, Dr. Pepper, he worked at TLC Rentals in Canute, Oklahoma.

Monty was a very giving and loving person who would do anything for his Canute Community Family and all he met. He would fix breakfast for the seniors and the kids, he would give kids at school a ride in the fire truck, and just loved serving the community. The nieces and nephews called him “Uncle Handsome”. Monty loved his wife and family including his dogs with all his heart. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He was an active member of the Elk City Church of God.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Elk City, Oklahoma. Rev. Joe Thompson will officiate. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Richard and Tammy Dugger and the staff of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Cherishing his memory is his loving wife of forty-six years, Rita of the home; one daughter, Monica Brinkley and Lonnie Gunter of Canute, Oklahoma; one brother, Mel Gene Brinkley of Elk City, Oklahoma; three sisters, Deborah Tripp and her husband, David of Elk City, Oklahoma, Sheryl Doshier and her husband, Larry of Newalla, Oklahoma, Trena Brinkley of Canute, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Doris Louise Gunter; brother-in-law, Larry Gunter; sister-in-law, Linda Hoffman; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Melrose and Mary Beth Brinkley, one brother, Ranny Brinkley. Memorials can be made to the Canute Volunteer Fire Department in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 707, Elk City, Oklahoma 73648.
