Melba Maurine (Huls) Forrester was born February 1st, 1942 to Maurice and Ruby (Rittle) Huls in Clinton, Oklahoma.

Maurine went to be with the Lord on October 29th, 2022 at her home in Elk City at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 28 days.

Maurine grew up in Foss, Oklahoma on the family farm.

She attended Canute High School, where she was active in basketball and the music programs.

Maurine graduated in May of 1960. After high school she married Royce “Plug” Forrester on September 10th, 1960 at the First Baptist Church of Foss, Oklahoma.

They made their home on the Forrester Farm in Canute, Oklahoma, where they farmed and operated Forrester Well Service until retirement. In October of 2007, they moved to Elk City, Oklahoma.

Maurine learned hard work at a young age on the Huls Family Farm, while growing up. After she married, she was a homemaker and stayat- home mom. Along with helping on the Forrester Farm. After their son started school Maurine began substitute teaching at Canute Schools. She also helped with many music programs, graduations and any school or civic function that might need a piano player. Maurine’s passion was music.

She loved to play the piano and sing. She played and sang at countless wedding, funerals, school programs, church revivals, church socials and any other civic organizations.

She traveled a many a mile to play the piano and sing. In 1995 she auditioned to record a gospel album in Nashville, Tennessee.

Maurine was offered a recording contract, but decided she did not want to be away from her family and young grandkids all the time. She did tour on her own at special church events and invitations around Western Oklahoma, where she would sell her albums. Other hobbies of Maurine were cross-stitch and crocheting, reading a good book and watching sports. She loved watching basketball, football, baseball and golf. As long as a game was on the TV, she was happy. Another Passion of hers was her family and especially her grandchildren. She was one of their biggest fans. Maurine was an active member of the Methodist Church of Canute, where she played the piano and lead singing for over 55 plus years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Mauriece McClain Huls, Jr., and her husband of 57 years.

Maurine is survived by her son, Greg Forrester and wife, Sharon, Elk City, OK; 3 grandchildren, Ashley Forrester, Oklahoma City, OK, Coty Forrester and significant other, Jaeda Cook, Elk City, OK, and Riley Forrester and wife, Mikiah, Elk City, OK; 2 great grandchildren, Indie Caed Forrester and Waylon Cole Forrester who will be making his arrival November 2022; 1 sister, Glenna Huls, Haddonfield, New Jersey and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Maurine’s care givers, Doris Cumming and Carolyn Thompson.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday November 2, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the Prairie View Baptist Church with Danny Ringer officiating and Charley Henthorn assisting.
