Lon Douglas (Doug) McDown, 86, of Buffalo Missouri, entered Heaven’s gates on August 20, 2023. He was born August 15, 1937, to John William and Bea Victoria McDown and was the youngest of eight children.

He attended Custer City Public Schools and graduated in May of 1955. Doug was PFC in the United States Army.

He married Sandera Joyce Martin on June 15, 1957. He started a career with Safeway, which moved them to Reno, Nevada. Coming back to Oklahoma, Doug worked for Oklahoma Gas and Electric before continuing his education at Oklahoma State University. Doug returned to Clinton and enjoyed a long career in farming, ranching and trucking. He continued to drive cross country until he was 82 years old.

Doug was active in his church, serving as Deacon of FBC Clinton for many years. Doug was also very involved in Clinton FFA, Red Tornado Booster Club and other activities as his children attended school. In 1992, Doug married Sandra Jane Johnson and settled in Buffalo, Missouri.

Doug will be fondly remembered for his sweet and gentle spirit, his witty personality, and his ever-positive attitude no matter what he was going though.

He is known to many friends as Night Hawk and Peaches. His family is blessed to know him as Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa!

Doug is survived by his wife JJ. He leaves two sons and three daughters, Robert and wife DiAnn of Edmond, Harold and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, Tracey and husband JD of Lamar, MO, Shelbea McDown of Columbus, Ohio, and Billie Jo Mc-Down of Springfield, MO. Doug adored his grandchildren, Matt McDown and wife Amber of Edmond, RJ McDown and wife Rachel of Fulshear, TX, Jon McDown and wife Lauren of Edmond, Megan Stivers and husband Jordan of Stillwater, Taylor Means and husband Ross of Lamar, MO, Morgan England and husband Colter of Lamar, MO, Hunter Gepner of Springfield, MO and Duncan Gepner and wife Jordan of Moberly, MO. Doug was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, Blake, Zachary, Wyatt, Walker, Josie, Beau, Ridley, Rayner, Madelyn, and Blakely.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, John and Bea Mc-Down and 7 siblings, Paul, Joe, Duane, Lloyd, Erma Lea, Johnny Bea, and Bill.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Clinton, Oklahoma on Saturday, September 30th at 1:00pm.
