A Celebration of Life for Joe Dan May 86 year old Hydro, OK resident will be held in The Chapel of Lockstone Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 2:00 P.M.

Joe was born at his family’s home near Barnitz Creek in Custer County on March 27, 1934. He passed away on July 18, 2020 at Maple Lawn Manor in Hydro, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 3 months, 22 days. Joe was the son of John William May Sr. and Lanora “Bill” (Giesken) May.

Joe attended grade school at Womble then later graduated from Arapaho High School in 1952. As a Senior he was awarded Junior Master Farmer Award and was president of the Arapaho FFA Chapter. Joe was quite competitive in sports with basketball and baseball being his favorites.

Joe made a profession of faith and was baptized in 1953 at the First Baptist Church in Clinton, Oklahoma. Joe, a country boy, married Sharon Lucas, a city girl from nearby Clinton on October 11, 1953. He fixed up a shack in the middle of a pasture 21 miles northwest of Clinton establishing their first home. In 1954 Joe and Sharon moved to their farm near Hydro, farming along the banks of Deer Creek for nearly 40 years. He then moved to his current home in Hydro. Joe was known throughout the community for his beautiful yard, willingness to help others, and the maintenance of the streets of Hydro. Joe was a great dad to Jamie Lynn and Julie Beth. He was later blessed with four granddaughters, one grandson and two great grandsons.

Joe farmed and custom baled hay for many years. His final place of employment was for the Town of Hydro. Joe was a volunteer member of the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief working with both the feeding unit and as a Blue Cap on the chainsaw crew. Locations where Joe volunteered were Florida, New York City, Virginia Beach, Alabama and many Oklahoma locations.

Joe is survived by his daughters Jamie Brehm and her husband Jackie of Piedmont, OK and Julie North and her husband Joe of Golden, CO; grandchildren Kylie North and Laura Keeler of Boise, ID; Kayci North and Sean Cornillie of Millcreek, UT; Alison North and Chris Stuber of Taylorsville, UT; Megan Hall and Jason Hall of Piedmont, OK; Jared Brehm of Oklahoma City, OK and two great grandsons Cooper Don Hall and Parker Dan Hall. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Martha May; nine nieces and nephews, Marsha Miller, Mike May, Gary Suter, Pat Regier, Jack Holbrook, Lee Kemp, Paula Potter, Chris Lucas and Darla Akin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Sharon Gayle (Lucas) May; his parents John and Lanora (Bill) May; his father-in-law Everett Lucas; his Mother-in-law Gladys Alice Lucas; brother J.W. (Dub) May Jr., sister Grace Lee Suter and husband Donald; sister Lera Ann Holbrook and husband Jack and brother-in-law Phil Lucas and wife Phyllis Lucas.
