Duncan Whelton Summerford was born January 21, 1949 in Ancon, Canal Zone to Frances Edna (Whelton) and Homer Howard Summerford. He passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years and 2 months.

Duncan grew up in the Canal Zone until 1964. Due to political unrest in Panama, he moved to Georgia and attended Berry Academy for high school, graduating in 1967. He furthered his education at Oklahoma State University studying journalism. While in Stillwater, he met Beverly Anette (Dewees) and they were later married on August 19, 1969 in Clinton, Oklahoma. After their marriage, Duncan was drafted into the United States Air Force where he received training in Wichita Falls before being stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida. After his discharge, they moved back to Clinton, Oklahoma where they made their home and raised their family. Duncan provided for his family by securing employment in Clinton, Elk City, and Weatherford before his retirement in 2015. Duncan enjoyed carpentry, stonework, renovating the family’s home, studying Judeo-Christian history, caring for his pets, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Duncan is survived by his wife, Beverly, of the home; 1 daughter, Chimène Long and husband, Bill, Oklahoma City, OK; 2 grandchildren, Sarah Long, West Orange, NJ and Alex Long, Houston, TX; 1 great grandson, Thomas Long, Houston, TX; 2 brothers, Roark Summerford and wife, Karen, Hendersonville, TN and Jody Summerford and wife, Marcia, Phoenix, AZ and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service is scheduled for March 31, 2023 at 2pm at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 500 S 30th St, Clinton, OK 73601. Friends are welcome to join the family for visitation and refreshments after the service.
