Dean Edwin Waltrip, 88 of Arapaho, Oklahoma was born August 26, 1932 in Levelland, Texas to John and Ruth (Johnson) Waltrip. He passed away peaceful on Tuesday, July 27th, 2021 at the Baptist Village in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Dean grew up in Levelland, Texas where he attended high school and played football. He then went into farming and raised cotton crops for many years. He later went to work for Arkla Gas Company where he retired.

After moving to Arapaho, he married his love Sandy Hobbs and they shared over 30 years together. Dean was an avid fisherman and gardener, but he was best known as “The Peanut Brittle Man”.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Ricky Dean Waltrip, Tim Waltrip and Pete Ponce; two brothers, Gene Waltrip (his twin), Bob Waltrip and one sister, Ada Anderson.

Cherishing his memory are his son, John Waltrip and wife, Sharon, Tahlequah, OK; daughter, Dewana Wynn and husband, Joe; son, Jerry Waltrip and wife, Debbie, Midland, TX; daughter, Sheryl Lovejoy and husband, Russ, Vian, OK; daughter, Debbie Gorman and husband, Bruce, Burneyville, OK; son, Ray Ponce, San Diego, CA; son, Kenny Hobbs and friend, Cheryl, Arapaho, OK. Dean was blessed with many grandkids, great grandkids, great great grandkids and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Adams Fund c/o The Elk City Baptist Village, 1500 West Country Club Blvd., Elk City, OK 73644.

Funeral services were Monday, August 2, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Arapaho, Oklahoma, officiated by Van Leonard and Hoyt Phillips.

Services were under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West.
