NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — The mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot his teacher in Virginia pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of felony child neglect, seven months after her son used her handgun to critically wound the educator in a classroom full of students.

After another round of weekend storms blew through the area, Custer County Commissioners discussed damages across the county during their regular meeting Monday though they say damage is nowhere near what occurred in storms last month.

Villanueva ready for second term

Incumbent Ernesto Villanueva has secured a second term as a Clinton City Councilman representing Ward 1 after no other candidates filed against him in this year’s election. While Villanueva’s entrance into the council was a bit unconventional, he says he is excited to once again have the opportunity to serve the people of Clinton.

With local schools back in session, school safety is at the front of officials’ minds and along with that includes traffic safety across the city, something Clinton Police Chief Paul Rinkel says he and his officers do not take lightly.

Water tower roof update

The water tower at the intersection of 18th Street and Broadway Avenue now appears to have caved in further after damages sustained from Sunday’s storm producing high winds.
