Jail maintenance continues to be at the top of county officials’ minds as they work to keep the most used building in the county in good shape, the Custer County Jail. With a new maintenance director in place, officials are hopeful conditions will continue to improve at the jail after discussions during a regular meeting of the Custer County Commissioners Tuesday.

The Mission House in Clinton is seeking a new director to oversee daily operations for the nonprofit shelter and soup kitchen, something that board members say one has to have a compassionate heart and willingness to help people who need it most to successfully fill the position.

Friends on Frisco closes season

“Guten tag!” This month’s Oktoberfestthemed Friends on Frisco will be held tomorrow at the intersection of Frisco Avenue and South Sixth Street. The Bavarian tradition of live music, good food, merchandise vendors and seasonal beers – considered the traits of any good “volksfest” (people’s festival) – will be celebrated from 6 to 9 p.m.
