New friend makes offensive racist joke

DEAR HARRIETTE: When you first look at me, you probably cannot tell that I am biracial. I am definitely white passing. I have very fair skin and straight hair. I don't really feel the need to tell new people in my life that I am half-Black unless it comes up naturally in conversation.

DO JUST ONE THING

•A running toilet not only wastes around 200 gallons of water a day (which comes to about 6,000 gallons per month!) but it also -- on average -- can cost you an extra $100 on your monthly water bill. To find out if your toilet has a leak, add a few drops of food dye in the tank of the toilet. If any of the color in the tank makes its way into the water in the bowl before flushing, you have a leak. Now fix it: DIY kits are easy to use, and there are tutorials online that can guide you through the process step by step.
