SWPH’s ‘Poppins’ is can’t miss production

Southwest Playhouse’s “Mary Poppins Jr.” brings the well-known classic to life across the playhouse stage with only actors in the fourth through 12th grade. Performances of the colorful show will take the stage for one weekend only and is one children and adults alike won’t want to miss.

Incumbent Patch Mc-Comas will face off against challenger Stormie Hill to represent Ward 3 on the Clinton City Council in an election set to be held Nov. 14 after filing closed Wednesday with no other candidates throwing their hat in the race.

Just two weeks since a major thunderstorm blew through town wrecking damage across Clinton, Homeland, one of the businesses hardest hit during the storm that boasted more than 70 mph winds, will once again open its doors today at 7 a.m. after winds folded back its roof, causing damage to the store below.

Cleanup continues nearly two weeks after a windstorm ripped through Clinton leaving behind broken tree branches, damaged roofs and a downed communications tower leading the Clinton City Council to declare an emergency for the July 7 storm allowing City Manager Robert Johnston to waive competitive bidding to allow for repairs to move forward without the usual 30-day bid process.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Robert F. Kennedy Jr. worked to defend himself Thursday against accusations that he traffics in racist and hateful online conspiracy theories, testifying at a House hearing on government censorship despite requests from outside groups to disinvite the Democratic presidential candidate after his recent antisemitic remarks.
