Lois Joy Powers, 80, a lifelong Butler resident, was born January 5, 1946, in Oakwood, Oklahoma, to Louie and Orpha (Miracle) Ray. She passed away Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Lois was raised in Butler and attended Butler Schools. On January 18, 1963, she married the love of her life, Jimmy Allen Powers, in Butler. She was a devoted farmer’s wife, embracing all the responsibilities and joys that came with that life.
In the 1990s, Lois began working for Custer County District 3, where she operated tractors with a bat-wing attached, mowing all around the county. She dedicated many years of service there until her retirement in 2009.
Lois enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She loved flowers, reading, and watching her favorite television programs, Antique Roadshow and Murder, She Wrote. Above all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, especially taking walks with them when they were younger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Orpha Ray; her husband, Jimmy Powers, who passed away in 1997; her sister, Mary; her brothers, Jerry, Tim, Jack, Tom, and Don; and a grandson, Jimmy Powers III.
Lois is survived by her son, Jim Powers and wife Colleen of Butler; her daughter, Frankie LaRue and husband Buddy of Butler; her sistersin- law, Frances Ray of Leedey and Trish Ray of Tulsa; her brothers, Bill Ray of Custer City, John Ray of Weatherford, and Kenny Ray of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Courtney, Christopher, Calista, Bobbie, and Kevin; along with a host of greatgrandchildren.
Service for Lois will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in the Hyman Memorial Chapel located in the Lee Hometown Funeral Home, with Ron Fletcher officiating. Services are under the direction of the Lee Hometown Funeral Home.
