Southwest Elementary School saw progress Tuesday with demolition crews spending the day tearing down buildings on the backside of the school which is set to be replaced through the Capital Improvement Plan.
The Clinton United Fund has entered the new year halfway to donation goal of $40,000 with $21,280 raised so far. The United Fund started collecting donations Sept. 21 of last year.

Tuesday afternoon construction crews were in the process of removing the lettering of the former Big Kmart sign in anticipation of replacing it with Sutherlands branding. A construction representative said his crew was in charge of taking down the signage and cutting in a new entrance in preparation for a possible March opening.
The Clinton City Council expressed its optimism for the New Year at its regular meeting Tuesday. Also discussed was the future of the Clinton Hospital as the City continues to work through the process of obtaining a new license and Medicare provider number to reopen the hospital.
