Politics are often referred to by some as an “ugly business,” but one local candidate and his wife have recently taken steps to protect themselves after receiving harassing and threatening text messages.

State Rep. Anthony Moore, who is seeking re-election for Dist. 57, and his wife, Rachel, recently filed five protective orders at the Custer County Courthouse after receiving the threatening messages.

Moore sent out a press release about the incident and the opening statement came from his wife.

“After an OSBI investigation confirmed the harassing and threatening text messages sent to my personal phone last week were sent by the staff of OCPA, hiding behind the name People for Opportunity, I have decided to request protective orders today in Custer County District Court,” Rachel Moore stated.

“To protect myself and my children, I have sought protective orders against the leaders of the special interest organization: Jonathan Small, Dave Bond, Ray Carter and other staff and accomplices.

“When my husband, Rep. Anthony Moore, entered public service two years ago, we knew we would have to endure lies and untruths told about his record in office, but never did we imagine that I would become the target of personal and threatening attacks.”

Anthony Moore also issued a statement as well.

“As parents, Rachel and I will take whatever steps necessary to protect our family, and we will stand against the attacks upon my character and my record, but especially against the unprovoked and unwarranted attacks on my incredible wife. This kind of dirty politics has no place in rural Oklahoma political campaigns.

“I am confident the people of western Oklahoma will reject these seven-figure negative campaigns being waged against good and honest people.

“Let me be clear: western Oklahoma is NOT for sale to the out-of-state billionaires funding OCPA who want to own this seat to achieve their political purpose.”
