Funeral services will be held for Robert “Bob” Nickel, 74, of Cordell at 10 a.m. Saturday at Herold Mennonite Church in Bessie.
He died Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
Nickel was born Jan. 11, 1944, in Clinton to Edwin and Darlene Nickel. He was raised on the family farm outside of Bessie, and attended school in Flynn, Cordell and the Oklahoma Bible Academy in Meno.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. He also served in the Air National Guard in Oklahoma City.
On May 10, 1968, he married Vicki Maddox.
Nickel farmed in the Bessie area before obtaining a job with Glasscock Motors in Cordell, and he later worked as an assistant administrator at Clinton Regional Hospital. For many years he was self-employed as a computer programmer and wrote software for veterinarians and hospitals, and most recently he owned a boat repair shop with his son in Cordell.
He enjoyed restoring his 1955 Chevy truck and loved hunting and fishing. Nickel was an avid follower of current events and was a life-long learner, and enjoyed watching sports with his wife.
Nickel was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Creed Maddox Sherrill.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Denise Intemann and husband Robin of Pampa, Texas, and DeAnn Coldwell and husband Paul of Mustang; a son, Darren Nickel and wife Tracy of Bessie; two granddaughters, Karissa Sherrill and husband Vance of Granbury, Texas, and Kailee Intemann of Amarillo, Texas; three grandsons, Damon Hart of Oklahoma City, Ryan Nickel and wife April of Cordell, and Logan Nickel of Bessie; three great-grandchildren, Crew, Case and Lola Sherrill of Granbury, Texas; and one sister, Eleanor Voth and husband Melvin of Adair.
Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
The service will be officiated by Reverend R. B. Mathis. Interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
