Mary Ann (Grimes) Atkinson
Funeral services for Mary Ann (Grimes) Atkinson, 74, Burns Flat resident, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bethany Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Billy Mucker, Rev. Lloyd Hall and Rev. James Callins.
Mrs. Atkinson died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Grace Living Center in Clinton. She was born May 20, 1939 in Clinton, the daughter of Jim and Mazie Ann (Carr) Grimes.
She was raised in Clinton and attended Excelsior School before continuing her education at the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, receiving her culinary arts degree.
She made her residence in Burns Flat where she was first employed with a furniture factory. She also worked as a cook at the Pop Hicks Restaurant and finished her working career with the Burns Flat
School System. After working in various positions, she retired after 32 years in 2008.
She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Simmons, Isabel Grimes and Rosa Mae Rhoades; and three brothers, Ralph Grimes, Sonny Grimes and William “Buddy” Grimes.
Survivors include four daughters, Melody Crawford, Clinton, Regina Labostrie, Burns Flat, Sherri Price and husband, William, Burns Flat, Andrea Atkinson and Bobby McIntosh Jr., Tulsa; four sons, Joe McBrayer and his fiancée, Deborah Watson, Minneapolis, Minn., Edward L. McBrayer and his wife, Ann, Minneapolis, Minn., James Atkinson and his wife, Bobbi, Elk City, Keith Atkinson and his wife, Monique, Mesquite, Texas, and, Rick Marr and his wife, Nicole, Elk City; a sister, Ruth Bennett, and her husband, George, Clinton; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
