Former Tuttle head coach to join CHS football staff
Former Tuttle High School football head coach Philip Koons has been hired to join the football coaching staff at Clinton High School, Clinton head football coach Mike Lee confirmed Tuesday.
Koons will replace Jay Richert, who is retiring and served as the defensive coordinator a season ago.
“Coach Richert was retiring and we get to replace him with Coach Koons, which is a good deal for us,” Lee said. “I hate losing Jay, but it’s a good deal for us to get a guy who is a proven winner. He’s a good coach and he coaches a very similar style to what I do. The philosophies are the same. He’s very demanding and a good football coach. I mean, he’s a guy who has won over 200 games and a couple of state championships. You get a chance to get somebody like that and that’s something you’ve got to be able to do.”
