BOTTLED WATER, PAPER GOODS, DUST MASKS and a myriad of other supplies from Clinton, Okla. are bound today for Louisiana with troops from the 1st Battalion, 171st Field Artillery of the Oklahoma National Guard. JUST AS THE CLINTON DAILY NEWS reported Monday would probably happen, prices at most local fuel establishments shot up nearly a quarter a gallon this morning. As a tank-load of fuel sits on the driveway of the Quik Stop at 219 S. Fourth St., the sign already shows $2.78.9 a gallon for unleaded gasoline and $2.86.9 for premium. About 75 bingo players flocked to the United Methodist Health Care Center dining hall in Clinton Thursday with nursing home guest coming to the game from Corn, Hydro and Cordell. JUNIOR RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS (JROTC) uniforms have begun arriving at Clinton High School, and program director Col. Lynn Norman was sorting through all of the boxes this morning. He said that some 150 of the uniforms supplied by the federal government (including all of the outer garments even down to the socks) have been ordered. About 90 cadets are enrolled in the program. Eventually, three extracurricular programs will come out of JROTC, including drill team, color guard and rifle team (Norman expects to have teams ready for drills by at least the second home football game for Homecoming on Oct. 7). Oklahoma Route 66 Museum's photography contest has been gaining statewide publicity, and a lot of entry forms have gone out across the state, but local contest sponsors are still waiting for the art to come in. Shown here looking over some of the items are (from left) volunteer Juanita Stucker, museum director Pat Smith and volunteer Goldie Friedrich. Categories for the contest include roadside scenes, historic landmarks, animals, events, film, digital, color, and black and white. There are classifications for amateur and professional. An overall grand prize along with first and second places in each category will be awarded. There is no entry fee. Blunck Studios is judging the contest. Pictures must be from four by six inches to eight by ten inches in size; and mounted or matted to no larger than 11 inches by 14 incehes.
