Wanda Maude Banks Price
Funeral services for Wanda Maude Banks Price, 86, of Cordell, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Fourth and College Church of Christ in Cordell, officiated by Patrick Peters and Josh Yeager.
Mrs.Price died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014. She was born in rural Washita County near Port June 17, 1927, the daughter of W. F. Banks and Nannie Bess McNabb Banks.
She spent her early years in Dill City before her family moved to Cordell when she was eight years old.
She graduated from Cordell Public Schools in 1945 as salutatorian of her senior class and attended her first semester in college on an academic scholarship at George Pepperdine in Los Angeles, Calif.
In January 1946, she transferred to the University of Oklahoma and after the spring semester of 1947, she was asked to accept her first teaching position in Cloud Chief, where she taught fifth and sixth grades and junior high and senior high girls’ physical education.
During this time she met the love of her life, A. J. Price Jr., and they were married June 3, 1949. The family moved to Kansas in 1950 where she taught Sunday school class and served the State of Kansas as a justice of peace for four years.
The family returned to Cordell in 1962, and she returned to college in September 1963, graduating in May 1965 with a major in elementary education and a minor in physical education, with concentration in language arts. She also received a Master’s Degree in arts and science.
During her years of teaching, she taught at Cloud Chief 1947-1948, Port 1965-1966, Corn 1966-1968, Washita Heights 1968-1972 and Cordell 1976, retiring in May 1992. She also served as a teacher’s aide for seven years.
Mrs. Price coached basketball and softball at all levels. She was a fifth and sixth grade teacher and also a 4-H leader.
She received many honors, some of which included Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award and Chapter FFA Degree.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and was a teacher with World Bible School.
Preceding her in death were her parents, W.F. and Nannie Bess Banks; her husband, A.J. Price Jr.; a son, Randal Philip Price; and a brother, Joe Banks.
Survivors include one son, Terry Paul Price and his wife, Patty, of Bessie; one daughter-in-Law, Kathy Price of Ulysses, Kan.; one daughter, Lawana Price Reyes and her husband, Tommy, of Cordell; nine grandchildren, Charlie Price and his wife, Amber, of Edmond, Terry Price Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Luther, Tara Gray of Bridgeport, Tod Price and his wife, Heather, of Skiatook, Jim Price and his wife, JaNae, of Cordell, Lee Delp and his wife, Danelle, of Weatherford, Joel Delp of Burns Flat and friend, Jordan Williamson of Cordell, Carlos Reyes of Norman and Aaron Reyes of Clinton; 10 great grandchildren, Kary Heath, Kacy Price and Kory Price of Luther, Tori and Davin Gray of Cordell, DeLana Price of Cordell, Avery Price of Edmond, Morgandee and Halle Cabaniss of Clinton and Harley Reyes of Norman.
Burial will conclude in the Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell, under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, of Clinton.
