Ruth (Shephard) Gum
Ruth (Shephard) Gum, 82, died on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at home surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 14, at 2 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne, Texas.

Ruth Wanda Shephard was born on August 18, 1931, northwest of Arapaho, Okla., and was the seventh of nine children of George Scott “Tuff” and Nellie Maye Shephard.
She was the first child to be born on the family farm that was bought in 1929 — the year of the stock market crash and beginning of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma.
She attended Womble School (a little country school) through the eighth grade and graduated from Arapaho High School and the Draughon School of Business, where she completed a nine-month business/secretarial course.
After graduation from college, she accepted a position at Clinton-Sherman Air Force Base and moved to Clinton.
In 1951, she married Russell Owen Gum of Butler, Okla., and they moved to Wichita, Kan., where she was executive secretary to the president of Cessna Aircraft and later held a subsequent position to the president of Learjet.
She later became a partner in the family printing business. They moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1971 and then later to Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas.
Ruth is survived by her two children, Susie (Bill) Wright of Shell Knob, Mo. and Mark (Jessica) Gum of Boerne, Texas; four grandchildren, Chad (Hollie) Borchers of Corpus Christi, Texas, Misti Borchers, of Overland Park, Kan., and Chandler and Jake Gum, of Boerne, Texas; three great grandchildren,: Jason, Adyson and Julia Borchers; four siblings,: Cy (Louise) Shephard of Yuba City, Calif., Jake Shephard of Yuba City, Calif., Faye Hamblin of Amarillo, Texas, and Yvonne Adams of Okemah, Okla.; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Gum; granddaughter, Amy Borchers; her parents; and siblings, Donal Shephard, Bill Shephard and Ellav Parr.
