Ruby L. Weathersbee Cameron
A chapel service for Ruby L. (Weathersbee) Cameron, 77, longtime Cordell resident, was held Monday afternoon in the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, in Clinton, officiated by Doyle Kinney.
Mrs. Cameron died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, in the Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 24, 1936 in Clinton, the daughter of Dewey and Minnie (Gossman) Weathersbee.
Her early years were spent in the Arapaho-Clinton area, where she attended Clinton schools.
She briefly worked in the early 1950s as a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Greenfield, near Geary, where her paternal grandparents lived.
Once she married Richard VanHyning in 1955 in Cordell, she became a homemaker. In 1962, she married George Oliver in Sayre. In 1976, she married Bill Cameron. In the early 1990s, she returned to Cordell to be near her children.
As a youngster, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church and in her later years she attended the Fourth and College Church of Christ in Cordell.
Survivors include two sons, Troy Oliver of Cordell and Dewey Jewett of North Texas; four daughters, Joyce Arlene Thrasher of Silver Springs, Fla., Gwin VanHyning of Cordell, Jo Payne and her husband, Gregory, of Carlsbad, N.M. and Karen Milam of North Texas; eight grandchildren, Amber Oliver, Derrick Oliver, Danny Uplinger, Tracy Uplinger, Sabrina VanHyning, Candy Seals, Amy Heintz and Mara Rowden; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two infant brothers; and three grandsons, Johnny Rowden, Clyde Leon Van Hyning and Kevin Van Hyning.
Burial concluded in the Arapaho Cemetery.
