Maria L. Chapa
Funeral services for Maria L. (Olvera) Chapa, 86, Clinton resident, will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Church of God.
Mrs. Chapa died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, in the Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 6, 1928 in Bryan, Texas, the daughter of Felipe and Anjelina (Vasquez) Olvera.
She was raised in and around Bryan, marrying Ernesto R. Chapa Jan. 14, 1945 in Robstown, Texas, and they made their homes in Texas.
In the early 1960s they moved to Oklahoma, living in Sentinel and Hobart before moving to Clinton in 1989. She worked as a nurse’s aide while living in Hobart.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a grandson, David Wayne Chapa; three brothers, Joel, Selipe Jr., and Elias Olvera; and a sister, Vicente Olvera.
She was a member of the Templo Marantha Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ernesto, of the Methodist Health Care Center; three daughters, Ester Chapa-Reyes, Denver, Colo., Annie Gonzales, Billings, Mont. and Elizabeth Acosta and her husband, John Sr., of Clinton; six sons, Samuel Chapa Sr., of Hominy, Ernest Chapa Jr and his wife, Ester, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Daniel Chapa and his wife, Margarita, of Clinton, David Chapa and his wife, Alicia, of Amarillo, Texas, Ezequiel Chapa and his wife, Elva, of Clinton and Israel Chapa and his wife, Estella, of Rotan, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Sulema Chapa, of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers, Reynaldo Olvera and Jesus Olvera, both of McKinney, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery, under the direction of Keisau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
