Karla Beasley McCown
Memorial service for Karla Beasley McCown, age 51, of Burns Flat, former Tipton resident, were held Monday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, Burns Flat, with Rev. Robert Colston, pastor, and Rev. Harold Gaches, First Baptist Church West, Lawton, officiating.
Mrs. McCown died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at her home in Burns Flat.
Arrangements are under the direction of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes.
She was born July 4, 1963, in Ardmore, the daughter of Ed and Kay (Long) Beasley.
She grew up and attended schools at Madill and graduated with the Class of 1981. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, where she received her bachelor’s degree.
She later received her master’s degree from Cameron University in Lawton. She worked as a librarian at Luther Public Schools, at which time she met Cliff McCown. They were united in marriage Aug. 2, 1986, at Madill. In 1988, they moved to Tipton and made their home there, and she taught for the Tipton Public Schools both at Tipton and Manitou.
In 2008, they moved to Burns Flat.
Preceding her in death were her mother; her paternal grandparents, Guy and Hazel Beasley; and her maternal grandparents: J.C. and Berniece Long.
Survivors include her father, Ed Beasley; her husband, Cliff McCown, of the home; her daughter, Katy Bevers and her husband, Seth, also of Burns Flat; a son, Garrett McCown and his wife, Jinna Mae, of Fairmont; a sister: Andrea Cordell and her husband, Ron, of Edmond; a brother, Eddy Beasley, of Russett; and nieces and nephews, Brittany, Brandon, Mikayla, Sarah, Rykin, Dusty, Joel, Tandi and David.
