John E. Russell
Funeral services for John E. Russell, 87, of Clinton, will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Meacham Memorial Chapel of the First Baptist Church, officiated by Doug Lewis.
Russell was born Oct. 16, 1926 to John E. and Pearl (Roberts) Russell in Montgomery, Ala. He died Sunday, March 23, 2014, in the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City.
He was raised in Houston, Texas, where he graduated from high school. He continued his education at Rice University in Houston before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1944.
Russell served during World War II and received an honorable discharge in 1946 with the rank of seaman first class.
He was married to Dorothy M. Allen on Aug. 13, 1948 in Bellville, Texas. Russell was employed in the oilfields, and the family moved and traveled extensively. However, he spent a number of years in the Bastrop, Texas area. He moved to Clinton in 1999.
He attended the First Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his wife in July of 2013; his parents; and two sisters, Rebecca Brummett and Billie Eaton.
Survivors include two sons, John A. Russell and his wife, Janelle, Clinton, and Tim Russell and his wife, Cathy, Bixby; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery, under direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home, Clinton.
