Catarina Castillo Rivera
Funeral services for Catarina Castillo Rivera, 82, Clinton resident, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Church of God, Clinton, officiated by Rev. Daniel Chapa.
Catarina (Castillo) Rivera was born Nov. 25, 1931, the daugher of Eugenio Castillo and Estefana Morales Castillo in Brackettville, Texas.
She died early Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton.
Mrs. Rivera was raised in Brackettville, Texas, where she attended school. She met and married Leonardo Acosta in 1948. In 1959 she met and married Silvestre Rivera.
She spent time in both Oklahoma and Minnesota where she worked as a farm laborer, as well as being a housewife.
The family arrived in Clinton in 1965. They would work six months in Clinton and six months in Minnesota, traveling back and forth until 1978. Her husband died in 1978, and the family moved to
Minnesota for a couple of years and then settled back in Clinton in 1980.
She became a licensed minister, along with her son, Frank, who was ordained. They started the Spanish Pentecostal Mission in Arapaho and in 1988 it became the Templo Maranatha Church and was moved to Clinton. They were associated with Unified Pentecostal Local Churches, Inc., International.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant daughter, Dora Catarina; her husband, Silvestre; and three sisters, Simona Arreola, Calletana Castillo and Maria Sanchez.
Survivors include five sons, Jose Juan Acosta and his wife, Elizabeth, Jesse Acosta and his wife, Renee, Frank Acosta, Rudy Rivera and his wife, Lorie, and Robert Rivera and his wife, Terri, all from Clinton; one brother, Domingo Castillo, Del Rio, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
