Calvin Curtis Harrelson
Funeral services for Calvin Curtis Harrelson, 78, former Clinton postmaster, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today in the First Christian Church, officiated by Doyle Kinney and Jeff McDowell.
Harrelson died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in the Integris Clinton Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 12, 1935 in Stafford, the son of Vernie and Laoma (Huey) Harrelson.
Raised on the family farm southwest of Clinton, Harrelson graduated from Stafford High School in 1954.
He soon enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent three years in the military before being honorably discharged.
He returned home and attended the former Southwestern State College. He began a career with the U.S. Post Office in 1959, serving in numerous capacities and retiring as postmaster in 1994.
Harrelson was a member of the First Christian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He served two terms on the Clinton City Council from 1976 through 1980; was a past president of the Evening Lions Club; served as director of the Westhoma Federal Credit Union for six years and three years of that as president.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Bobbie, in April of 2012; his parents; and a sister, Letha Sawatzky.
Survivors include four children, Kim Stringer and her husband, Steve, of Yukon, Kevin Harrelson, of Clinton, Kurt Harrelson and his wife, Terri, of Clinton, and Randy Harrelson and his wife, Vicki, of Yukon; two sisters, Edna Digby, of Weatherford and Geneva Digby, of Amarillo, Texas; three brothers, Ronnie Harrelson and his wife, Frances, Herman Harrelson and his wife, Faye, all of Clinton, and Gilbert Harrelson, of Weatherford; and three grandchildren, Nick Stringer and his fiancé, Kaitlin, Kyle Stringer and Quinton Harrelson.
Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery, under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton.
The family suggests memorial contributions in Harrelson’s honor may be made to the Friends for Life Animal Society.
