Broach died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Roanoke Carillion Hospital, Roanoke, Va.
Funeral services are scheduled for today (Saturday) at Lexington Presbyterian Church, with burial in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington.
A graduate of Clinton High School and the University of Oklahoma, Broach earned his Master’s Degree from Michigan State University. At Oklahoma, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, the OU Men’s Glee Club and AF ROTC, receiving his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.
Broach retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served at Clark AFB, Philippine Islands, Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, McDill AFB, Tampa, Fla., Udorn AB, Thailand, Ramstein AFB in Germany, finishing his career at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
A singer, he sang with various choral groups in the Washington, D.C. area. After moving to Lexington, he became a member of the Rockbridge Choral Society and the Lexington Presbyterian Church Choir.
He served on the Rockbridge Area Transportation System Board and with various organizations as a volunteer.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Cathy; daughter, Kate and son-in-law, Don Onstot, and three grandsons, Brian, Zachary and Benjamin, all of Charlotte, N.C.; and a sister Suzanne Jones and brother-in-law, Gary, of Los Gatos Calif.
A son, William James, and his parents, Bill and Thelma Broach, preceded him in death.
