Violence, control episode result in $500,000 bond
A Weatherford man remained Wednesday in the Custer County Jail with his bond set at half a million dollars on charges of kidnapping, trafficking in illegal drugs, and domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor.
The suspect is Todd Matthew Strand, 26. The charges stemmed from a rampage he allegedly went on that included holding a woman he was living with hostage overnight and beating her car with a crowbar.
He also allegedly shoved her down the steps of their mobile home while she was holding their 10-week-old baby in her arms.
The drugs – 162 grams or 5.78 ounces of methamphetamine – were found when the woman asked Weatherford police to search his car because she was going to have to drive it due to the damage done to hers. She apparently suspected it might contain something that could get her into trouble if she were stopped while driving it, and evidently she was right.
