Thief takes good TV, leaves reject
Local criminals continue to exhibit a high degree of ingenuity.
In one recent case, a 32-inch flat-screen TV was stolen from a local motel room. Apparently to disguise the theft as long as possible, it was replaced with another 32-inch flat-screen TV that didn’t work.
The switch was discovered June 30 when the room was cleaned.
Local resident Darci Maarten, 42, has been charged with petit larceny since she was the last person to rent the room before the theft was discovered. But she told police she had rented it for a friend of a friend and indicated she didn’t stay there herself. However, she didn’t know the name of her friend’s friend, and knew only the first name of the friend for whom she said she rented it. His first name was supposedly Thomas.
