One dead, one critical from weekend wrecks

A Texas man was killed and two Weatherford residents critically injured Friday in a pair of Custer County automobile accidents kicking off the long Memorial Day weekend.
Fortunately, there had been no other major mishaps reported in the area as of 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Dead is Donald Thomas Hill Jr., 61, of Amarillo. He died of a head injury about 4:15 p.m. Friday when the 2004 Buick van he was driving ran off Interstate 40 at the east edge of Clinton, hit an embankment and overturned a quarter roll.
That accident occurred on the eastbound side of the road near the 69-mile marker. Hill was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected, then pinned under the van for an hour and 13 minutes before being freed by the Clinton Fire Department.
