New city animal shelter may go on Calmez site

A new $300,000 City of Clinton animal shelter to be built in Fiscal Year 2015 was approved Tuesday night by the Clinton City Council.
City Manager Steve Hewitt indicated Wednesday morning the shelter possibly could be built in the 300 block of Frisco Avenue, across the street northeast of the Frisco Center where the venerated Calmez Hotel once stood. The six-story Calmez was opened in 1929 and was of course for decades the queen of Clinton buildings before being razed early this century in a lower-Frisco urban renewal effort coinciding with construction of the Frisco Center.
