Local man’s sentence extended

   Two hundred days have been added to Berry Sewell’s date of release from the Custer County Jail, putting his new release date Oct. 6, 2014. That means he must serve a full year for his conviction on Oct. 7, 2013, of “causing a personal injury accident resulting in great bodily injury while under the influence of alcohol or intoxicating liquor.”

   A new order signed by District Judge Doug Haught was filed Monday in the Court Clerk’s Office sentencing Sewell to six years imprisonment with all but one year suspended. That was the same as

   Haught’s order made the day the Clinton man pled guilty, but the new one contains the statement “Defendant to serve three hundred sixty five (365) days, day for day.”

   What that means, said Sheriff Bruce Peoples, is 365 days flat time, meaning Sewell gets no time off for good behavior. (His time is actually being served in the County Jail.)
