Ladder truck bids all under budget
Smiles abounded when bids were opened this week for the Clinton Fire Department’s replacement ladder truck. Three were received, and all were below the $350,000 budgeted.
Not much below, but below.
It’s being called a replacement truck because it won’t be new. It will just be new to the firemen using it.
The lowest bid was $325,000 for a 1999 model; another was $340,000 for a 2002 model; and the third was $349,000 for another ’99, but with a lot fewer miles and engine hours than the other two. The bids were referred to Interim City Manager Lisa Anders and Fire Chief Randy Carpenter for review and a recommendation; Carpenter said Friday they hope to have one at the council’s next meeting Aug. 5.
