Fugitive who took 2 autos recaptured
A Custer County Jail trusty from Yukon who escaped Sunday morning by stealing a car outside the jail also is alleged to have taken another vehicle from the Wal-Mart parking lot in Weatherford, but he was back in custody late Monday morning.
Nicholas Todd Van Brunt, 36, was captured by police in Warr Acres, an Oklahoma City suburb, Sheriff Bruce Peoples announced about 10 a.m. Monday. He said a Custer County deputy was en route to pick the suspect up at that time.
Van Brunt was already facing a charge of grand larceny here “after former conviction of a felony” before taking flight about 10 a.m. Sunday. In fact, he had been scheduled for arraignment on the grand larceny charge Monday after waiving a preliminary hearing March 27.
