Foss board lowers one rate hike
Those big water rate increases local residents were warned of nearly a month ago might not be quite as large as anticipated after non-Clintonites on the Foss Reservoir Master Conservancy District board agreed Monday to a compromise.
All seven board members voted to conditionally lower the amount charged member cities for water in excess of their assessments from the $3.42 per thousand gallons included in their budget last month to $2.90. Foss charged $2.70 per thousand for such water in calendar year 2013.
At $2.90 the increase would be 7.4 percent. At $3.42 it would have been 26.7 percent.
The Clinton City Council must agree to the $2.90 and guarantee the Foss board the city will continue to buy overage water from Foss. But the amount it must guarantee was unclear.
