Flat 20% water rate hikes sought
Across-the-board water rate increases of 20 percent will be sought by City Manager Steve Hewitt at Tuesday’s meeting of the Clinton Public Works Authority.
Hewitt had said earlier he would probably ask for 15-percent increases, but City Treasurer Debra Blanchard recommended 20 percent.
Higher rates are being requested because the Foss Reservoir Master Conservancy District has raised rates to all its member cities, including Clinton. The Foss raises were 20 percent for water taken under each city’s monthly allotment which it is required to buy, and 7.5 percent for water purchased in excess of the allotment. Last year Clinton bought more water above the allotment, also commonly referred to as assessment, than the allotment.
