Fire destroys local family’s house, belongings
A fire believed to have started from a lamp being used to keep baby chickens warm cost a rural Clinton family its house and virtually all its belongings Friday.
Vernon and Mary Whitney and their four children lived in the house, located two miles south of the Custer-Washita county line and two miles west of U.S. Highway 183. The children are all enrolled in Clinton schools.
The fire was discovered about 1 p.m. Friday. No one was home at the time.
