Drugs believed factor in death of 64-year-old
Earl Lee Willeford allegedly shot and killed 64-year-old Javier Garcia while Garcia was trying to collect money from him for a drug deal.
Both men were Elk City residents at the time of the shooting.
Willeford, 25, has been charged in Washita County District Court with “murder in the first degree – deliberate intent.” He allegedly told Elk City police detective John Cook that he was selling drugs for Garcia and owed him money which Garcia was attempting to collect.
As reported in last weekend’s Saturday edition of the Clinton Daily News, Garcia’s bullet-riddled body was found at the bottom of an old well cistern in western Washita County. An affidavit written by Detective Cook and filed with the murder charge indicates the cistern was located off State Highway 152 approximately three miles south of Canute.
