Deputies get all-OK from local D.A.
Deputies Chance Avery and Dillon Mach were justified in using deadly force when they shot and killed 18-year-old Mah-hi-vist Goodblanket on Dec. 21, 2013, District Attorney Dennis Smith has decreed.
As a result, no charges will be brought against the two officers, Smith said in a report delivered Tuesday to the office of Sheriff Bruce Peoples.
Title 21, Section 732 of Oklahoma State Law gives officers the right to use deadly force when indications are a suspect will endanger the lives of officers or inflict great bodily harm, Peoples said Wednesday, reading from Smith’s report. In this case, the report indicates Goodblanket had already employed deadly force against the officers by throwing a knife at them.
