Custer County now under burn ban
Private fireworks and most outdoor burning were banned Monday in Custer County.
With the current drought about to enter its fourth year, Custer County commissioners yielded to a request from the county’s fire chiefs and passed a comprehensive burn ban. It was made effective immediately, to last for 30 days or until amended or rescinded. It also could be extended beyond the 30 days if the county doesn’t get significant rainfall in April.
Clinton Fire Chief Randy Carpenter acted as spokesman for the chiefs in requesting the burn ban.
